Sophy Reese, born in a refugee camp after her family fled the Cambodian genocide, immigrated to the U.S. in 1984 and grew up in Stockton, California. As an English language learner navigating underserved communities, she became a strong self-advocate and translator for her family—these experiences shaped her lifelong commitment to servic
Sophy Reese, born in a refugee camp after her family fled the Cambodian genocide, immigrated to the U.S. in 1984 and grew up in Stockton, California. As an English language learner navigating underserved communities, she became a strong self-advocate and translator for her family—these experiences shaped her lifelong commitment to service. Over the past 20 years, she has worked in education as a special education teacher, behavior specialist, program specialist, assistant principal, and now principal in Stockton Unified. She is also the co-founder the United Cambodian American Network (UCAN), leading efforts to uplift the Cambodian community through cultural exhibitions, civic engagement, and advocacy that preserve heritage and inspire future generations.

Dr. Raksmey A. Tiano, born in a refugee camp, immigrated to the United States at age nine. Overcoming early life challenges, she earned a Ph.D. in Public Health. Dr. Raksmey is an adjunct professor at San Joaquin Delta College and an Administrator for Telecare Corporation. She also serves as Chair for Cultural Humility, Equity, and Inclu

Judie is a first-generation Cambodian American born and raised in Stockton, California. Her parents arrived and settled in Stockton, California in 1983. Judie is a first-generation Cambodian American born and raised in Stockton, California. Her parents arrived and settled in Stockton, California in 1983. Judie’s professional background is in the Childcare and Medical Administration Assistant profession. After taking a few years off to take care of her children Judie dived into entrepreneurship and has been in the field for the past 9 years. Being a first-generation Cambodian American living in Stockton, California and raised in a traditional family has allowed her to connect with her roots in many ways. Judie feels very fortunate to have grown up in a family that has instilled in her the importance of family, customs, and community.

Guided by her late father’s belief in education, she pursued college while balancing motherhood and
Raksan Kasem-Houy’s life reflects resilience, perseverance, and the power of education. Immigrating to America at a young age, she overcame poverty, cultural displacement, and the challenges of growing up in a gang-affiliated neighborhood. Guided by her late father’s belief in education, she pursued college while balancing motherhood and work, determined to create a better life for her family. With experience in organizations such as FRC, UCF, PACT, and UCAN, Raksan has dedicated her career to empowering underserved families. Today, as Assistant Director of AP Childcare Programs, she leads with compassion and purpose, continuing her lifelong mission to uplift her community.

Reaksa Cheth was born in Moung, Cambodia during the Cambodian Genocide and immigrated to the United States as a child refugee. Her family endured tremendous loss and hardship, yet found hope through faith and community after resettling in Stockton, CA. Inspired by her parents’ values of God, family, and education, Reaksa overcame early struggles in school to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Concordia University, Irvine. While there, she founded PAPAYA (Pan-Asian Pacific Association of Young Adults) to promote cultural awareness and Cambodian representation. Reaksa works as a Program Technician for Stockton Unified School District.

Savong Lam is a survivor of the Cambodian genocide whose journey to America was shaped by resilience, memory, and deep love for Khmer heritage. She is the founding member of UCAN and founder and vice-chair of the Khmer Language Arts and Culture Academy (KLACA), where she empowers youth and preserves tradition through language, arts, and
Savong Lam is a survivor of the Cambodian genocide whose journey to America was shaped by resilience, memory, and deep love for Khmer heritage. She is the founding member of UCAN and founder and vice-chair of the Khmer Language Arts and Culture Academy (KLACA), where she empowers youth and preserves tradition through language, arts, and intergenerational programs. Her leadership in the Khmer Anti-deportation Advocacy Group (KhAAG) reflects her commitment to justice and belonging, supporting families impacted by deportation. Across all her work, Savong creates spaces where Khmer voices are heard, remembered, and celebrated. She bridges generations and communities with empathy and strategy, ensuring that cultural identity remains a source of strength.

Sophany Bodine was born and raised in Stockton, California, to refugee parents who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1980s and instilled in her the values of education, hard work, and community service. Deeply rooted in her Cambodian heritage, Sophany has devoted much of her life to cultural preservation and community leadership. She has served as Vice President of the Board for the Asian Pacific Self-Development and Residential Association (APSARA) and is the Founder and Director of Morodok Khmer Performing Arts (MKPA), a dance troupe dedicated to promoting Cambodian arts. Sophany continues to share her love of Cambodian culture through dance, carrying forward her great-grandmother’s artistic legacy and striving to bridge generations through compassion, cultural pride, and storytelling.

Lon Chan was born and raised in Stockton, California. His family transferred from Khao I Dang Refugee camp in Thailand to the Philippines where they received formal education in English and western lifestyles. They were then sponsored to the United States. Their first residency was in Oklahoma, and shortly after they moved to Stockton, C
Lon Chan was born and raised in Stockton, California. His family transferred from Khao I Dang Refugee camp in Thailand to the Philippines where they received formal education in English and western lifestyles. They were then sponsored to the United States. Their first residency was in Oklahoma, and shortly after they moved to Stockton, California. Lon is very dedicated in performing and visual arts. After completing his degree in Stockton at San Joaquin Delta College and in Sacramento at California State University Sacramento, he implemented his creative vision and workmanship into the arts community. His self-taught techniques in theatrical and Cambodian dance costumes are major contributions for representing Khmer culture in the art community. Furthermore, his artistic talent arose as a contributor for the local dance troupe, Morodok Khmer Performing Arts (MKPA). He holds pride and joy in collaborating with his colleagues for MKPA. His roles for MKPA include being Co-lead and the Costume Coordinator.
